The Growing Debate Over TikTok’s Ban and Its Impact on Social Media Freedom.
In January 2025, legislation prohibiting TikTok in America was upheld in a ruling delivered by the United States Supreme Court, citing national security concerns. As a result, the app was taken off U.S. app stores, effectively shutting down its operations in America. Despite this, an executive order signed by then-President Donald Trump delayed the imposition of the ban for 75 days, effectively allowing TikTok to maintain its operations temporarily. In between, negotiations for U.S. companies to possibly purchase TikTok accelerated, with Oracle stating its willingness to enter a transaction that will ease security concerns. Things remain in motion, with negotiations and court cases shaping the fate of TikTok in America.
